Shively Electric was founded in 1974 as a one-man, one-truck operation by Richard Shively of Franklin County. The company was incorporated in 1979 and grew to seven employees by 1984. Now, 50 years later, Shively Electric is still a locally-owned company, employing over 60 people, and running a fleet of trucks and equipment. Shively Electric has offices in Roanoke, Christiansburg, Rocky Mount, and Martinsville to serve customer needs.

In addition to providing efficient, professional services, Shively Electric is community oriented, supporting youth athletics and local charities on a regular basis. Mr. Shively and many of the Shively Electric team members are involved in the community in their spare time, coaching youth sports and volunteering in the community. Shively Electric values its local roots and its many loyal clients and firmly believes in giving back to the community that has helped the company to grow and to be successful.

He currently serves on the board of the Better Business Bureau and chairs the Local Board of  Building Code Appeals. Mr. Tommy Amos, Vice President of Operations, was hired as a teenager in 1994 by Shively Electric to do odd jobs and wash the trucks. His hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence have been the rungs of the ladder he climbed to earn his education, develop his skill and knowledge, and become the head the operations of Shively Electric.
